Builth Wells Photographic Club welcomes new members – beginners as well as those with more experience. We are a small club of about 20 members so any newcomer will be instantly recognised and given a very warm welcome!
The programme for the evening meetings consists of professional lecturers who show their work giving instruction and advice, competitions for club members with an invited judge and members’ evenings. Members’ evenings include workshops on digital photography, practical sessions on flash and indoor lighting, table top photography and portrait photography with a live model. We have sessions when we show our photographs for discussion and provide plenty of opportunity for solving members’ photographic problems.
During 2007 the club received a grant from Awards for All Wales. We have used this to purchase laptops, Photoshop, a digital projector, colour printer, a guillotine for cutting mounts, frames for exhibitions and all the essential accessories to go with these.
Many of our members are now fully digital but there are still members who use film and develop their own prints in a traditional darkroom. So whether you are digital or film you will find a warm reception in the club
Over the years the club has held exhibitions of members’ photographs at several venues in Builth Wells and district. These are always well received by the general public. Group outings to photogenic events are organised and the results shared at a later meeting with some being entered for competitions. Our digital photography courses put on for the general public are usually oversubscribed. We are often invited by groups such as the Womens’ Institutes to give lectures and practical demonstrations on photography.
On the social side, we hold a Summer Barbeque and a Christmas Dinner when partners
are welcomed. With an invited judge we hold an annual inter-
